Job Overview

Alpha Crew LTD is currently seeking an experienced Chief Engineer for an Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessel (AHTS) operating in the Persian Gulf. This position is suited for senior marine engineering professionals with extensive offshore vessel experience and proven leadership capabilities in managing engineering departments onboard offshore support vessels.

The Chief Engineer serves as the head of the engineering department and is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all machinery, propulsion systems, power generation equipment, hydraulic systems, towing equipment support systems, and auxiliary machinery onboard.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring vessel readiness for anchor handling operations, towing assignments, rig moves, offshore construction projects, and support activities for oil and gas installations throughout the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assume full responsibility for all engineering operations onboard the vessel.
  • Lead and manage the entire engineering department.
  • Ensure safe operation of propulsion machinery and auxiliary systems.
  • Supervise maintenance of anchor handling and towing support equipment.
  • Monitor performance of generators, switchboards, and power management systems.
  • Oversee maintenance of hydraulic systems supporting deck machinery and towing equipment.
  • Manage planned maintenance schedules and machinery inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with Classification Society, Flag State, and Company requirements.
  • Monitor machinery performance and fuel consumption.
  • Prepare engineering reports, maintenance records, and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate major repairs, overhauls, and dry docking activities.
  • Ensure availability of critical spare parts and engineering consumables.
  • Support vessel audits, client inspections, and marine surveys.
  • Lead emergency response activities related to machinery failures and engineering emergencies.
  • Conduct engineering risk assessments and safety meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental protection and pollution prevention regulations.
  • Work closely with the Master to maintain vessel operational readiness.

Required Qualifications

  • Chief Engineer Unlimited Certificate of Competency.
  • Valid STCW Certification.
  • Valid Medical Fitness Certificate.
  • Passport and Seaman’s Book.
  • Minimum two years of experience as Chief Engineer on similar offshore vessels.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.

Experience Requirements

  • Previous Chief Engineer experience onboard AHTS vessels.
  • Experience supporting anchor handling operations.
  • Experience supporting towing and rig move operations.
  • Offshore oil and gas vessel experience.
  • Experience managing large marine engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with offshore operational procedures and client requirements.
  • Experience in the Persian Gulf region is highly desirable.

The successful candidate should possess strong knowledge of:

Leadership Responsibilities

As head of the engineering department, the Chief Engineer will:

  • Assign daily engineering tasks.
  • Review maintenance performance and machinery condition.
  • Conduct training and mentoring activities.
  • Promote safe engineering practices.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and international regulations.
  • Coordinate engineering activities during offshore operations.
  • Support crew competency development.
  • Lead engineering department meetings and safety briefings.
