Job Overview

Alpha Crew LTD is currently seeking a highly experienced Chief Engineer to join a DP2 Platform Supply Vessel operating in the Persian Gulf. This position offers an excellent opportunity for marine engineering professionals with offshore vessel experience to work on advanced offshore support vessels serving the oil and gas industry.

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall management, operation, maintenance, and performance of all machinery and engineering systems onboard. The successful candidate will ensure the vessel’s propulsion systems, power generation equipment, Dynamic Positioning support systems, auxiliary machinery, and safety-critical equipment remain fully operational at all times.

This role requires strong leadership abilities, technical expertise, and extensive experience managing engineering teams in demanding offshore environments where reliability, safety, and operational efficiency are critical to project success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the vessel’s engine room and machinery spaces.
  • Manage propulsion systems, generators, thrusters, pumps, compressors, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Ensure all DP-related machinery and redundancy systems remain fully operational.
  • Supervise and lead the engineering department onboard.
  • Plan, organize, and monitor preventive maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with Planned Maintenance System (PMS) requirements.
  • Monitor fuel consumption and machinery performance.
  • Maintain accurate engineering logs, maintenance records, and technical reports.
  • Coordinate machinery repairs and troubleshooting activities.
  • Ensure availability of critical spare parts and engineering consumables.
  • Conduct engine room safety inspections and risk assessments.
  • Manage machinery surveys and inspections required by Classification Societies and Flag Administrations.
  • Support vessel audits, client inspections, and statutory surveys.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, ISM Code, SOLAS, MARPOL, and Class requirements.
  • Monitor environmental compliance and pollution prevention measures.
  • Lead emergency response activities involving engineering systems.
  • Provide technical support during offshore operations and field assignments.

Required Qualifications

  • Chief Engineer Unlimited Certificate of Competency.
  • Valid STCW certification.
  • Valid Medical Certificate.
  • Passport and Seaman’s Book.
  • DP Maintenance Certificate.
  • Experience maintaining DP vessel machinery systems.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.

Experience Requirements

  • Previous experience as Chief Engineer on PSV DP vessels.
  • Offshore oil and gas vessel experience.
  • Experience with DP2 vessel operations.
  • Knowledge of IMCA requirements and offshore vessel maintenance practices.
  • Experience working with medium-speed marine diesel engines.
  • Familiarity with marine electrical power generation and distribution systems.
  • Experience in the Persian Gulf region is considered an advantage.

Technical Knowledge

The successful candidate should have experience with:

  • Dynamic Positioning machinery systems.

Leadership Responsibilities

As head of the engineering department, the Chief Engineer will:

  • Supervise engineering officers and engine ratings.
  • Allocate daily engineering tasks.
  • Conduct safety meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Train junior engineering personnel.
  • Promote safe working practices.
  • Ensure engineering crew competency and compliance.
  • Coordinate with the Master and offshore client representatives.
  • Support operational planning and vessel readiness.

The vessel is engaged in offshore supply operations supporting oil and gas installations throughout the Persian Gulf. Engineering operations are critical to maintaining vessel reliability, station-keeping capabilities, cargo operations, and overall offshore project support.
