Job Overview

Alpha Crew LTD is seeking an experienced and motivated Second Engineer to join an Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessel (AHTS) operating in the Persian Gulf. This position is ideal for marine engineering professionals with offshore vessel experience who are looking to advance their careers within the offshore oil and gas industry.

The Second Engineer will assist the Chief Engineer in the daily management of the engine department and ensure the safe and efficient operation of all propulsion, power generation, hydraulic, towing, and auxiliary systems onboard. The successful candidate will play a critical role in maintaining vessel readiness for anchor handling, towing, rig moves, offshore construction support, and supply operations.

AHTS vessels operate in demanding offshore environments where reliability of machinery and equipment is essential. Therefore, candidates must possess strong technical knowledge, practical troubleshooting skills, and previous offshore vessel experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chief Engineer in managing all engine room operations.
  • Supervise daily activities of engineering officers and engine ratings.
  • Operate and maintain main propulsion machinery and auxiliary systems.
  • Monitor vessel generators, switchboards, and power management systems.
  • Ensure anchor handling and towing equipment hydraulic systems remain operational.
  • Maintain winch hydraulic power units and associated machinery.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance in accordance with the Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
  • Monitor machinery performance and identify potential defects before failures occur.
  • Maintain engine room logs, maintenance records, and spare parts inventories.
  • Participate in bunkering operations and fuel management procedures.
  • Assist with machinery troubleshooting and repairs during offshore operations.
  • Support vessel inspections, client audits, class surveys, and flag state inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety procedures and permit-to-work systems.
  • Participate in emergency drills and emergency response activities.
  • Report machinery deficiencies and maintenance requirements to the Chief Engineer.

Required Qualifications

  • Second Engineer Certificate of Competency.
  • Valid STCW Certification.
  • Valid Medical Fitness Certificate.
  • Passport and Seaman’s Book.
  • Minimum two years of experience in rank on similar offshore vessels.
  • Good command of spoken and written English.
  • Ability to work in multinational offshore crews.

Experience Requirements

  • Previous experience onboard AHTS vessels.
  • Experience supporting anchor handling and towing operations.
  • Familiarity with offshore oil and gas vessel operations.
  • Experience maintaining hydraulic systems and deck machinery.
  • Knowledge of marine diesel engines and power generation equipment.
  • Experience in the Persian Gulf region is considered advantageous.

Technical Knowledge

Candidates should have practical experience with:

  • Marine propulsion systems.
  • Medium-speed marine diesel engines.
  • Auxiliary generators and alternators.

Daily Duties

The Second Engineer will routinely:

  • Conduct machinery rounds and equipment inspections.
  • Monitor engine room operational parameters.
  • Coordinate daily maintenance activities.
  • Supervise machinery repairs.
  • Verify completion of maintenance tasks.
  • Review spare parts requirements.
  • Support safe operation during anchor handling activities.
  • Ensure engineering compliance with company procedures.
  • Assist in preparing machinery for inspections and audits.
  • Participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings.

Working Environment

The vessel supports offshore drilling rigs, production platforms, offshore construction projects, and subsea operations throughout the Persian Gulf. Operations may include anchor handling, towing, rig moves, cargo transportation, and emergency response support.
